Books I read:
Erased - Kei Sanbe
This book was sooo good! Erased is a manga series about a man named Satoru Fujinuma who has gained the ability he calls "Revival." Essentially, whenever something unfortunate happens near him, he will be teleported back a minute and he has to try and figure out what is out of place. Once he stops the tragedy from happening, he can continue with his life. If he fails, he has to do it over again. After his mom is killed by an unknown man, he is sent back 18 years to save a classmate of his that was killed when they were just kids.
5/5
Farewell to Manzanar - James D. Houston and Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston
This book is considered a classic, and like most classics, it wasn't anything grand. It's based on a true story. A Japanese family that is sent to a Japanese internment camp after Pearl Harbor. The one interesting part of the book, was that every time the book reached a part in the story that the author wasn't sure about, such as their dad's childhood, it switched to third-person.
2/5
Movies I watched:
"What If"
It was weird to see Daniel Radcliffe in a comedic role, but I really enjoyed it. It was a Romcom with a very simple plot, but stupid Americans didn't want it to end the way it did, so they added extra scenes to the end.
3/5
"Lion King"
Since Kate and I got cast in Lion King we decided to watch it, since it's been a while. I forgot how funny the movie was, and it got me very excited to do the play.
4/5
Other things on my mind:
Lion King Auditions
Kate and I auditioned for Lion King Jr. It was pretty stressful to stand in front of a bunch of kids and sing a song, but we both got through it. She got cast as Banzai and I got cast as Zazu, so it all worked out.
Peter Pan
Kate and I were in a production of Peter Pan Jr. And it's an understatement to say that it did well. The cast, directors, and crew were all amazing. The sets were phenomenal, and the production quality was great. Kate played Capetian Hook and I played Mr. Darling and a pirate.
Zenkaikon
You can read all about it here.

Zenkaikon 2018
This year my dad and I went to Zenkaicon again, you can see my post from last year here.
-Saturday
I got up pretty early to go, I decided not to cosplay this day. The first panel we decided to go to was all about Anime from the 1990s. It was honestly pretty funny to see what kind of crazy shows they had back then, and it wasn't even that long ago! The dubs were awful, and they didn't even get good voice actors.
After that, we headed over to our next panel. Last year we went to some panels featuring Charles Dunbar. He's this really entertaining guy who talks about all things Japanese. This panel was about the Anime trope of "Magical Girls." Basically, it's your "Sailor Moon" type of character. It showed the effect it has in Anime and Japanese culture.
We headed over to the shopping area after that. We both got some pins, then ate lunch. Nothing special, just a burger and fries.
Next up was a panel about Cosplaying and how it helped this woman with her depression. She brought along her cosplay buddy, which just so happened to be a corgi. It was an interesting panel with a good moral, but it was also fun to watch the corgi sitting on the table.
We then went to this really great panel about Rankin and Bass and their impact on the Anime world. In case you don't know, Rank and Bass created such films as "Rudolph", "Santa Claus is Coming to Town", and all those animated "Lord of the Rings" movies.
We headed over to another Charles Dunbar panel all about Yokai. Yokai are those weird ghosts and spirits in all of those legends and stories you hear about, in Japan. Something I found interesting, was that there is a story about a girl that died in a bathroom, and now she haunts it as a lonely ghost. The bathroom stall and floor were the exact same as the ones from Harry Potter, meaning J.K. Rowling based Moaning Myrtle on this Japanese Yokai tale.
We headed home after that.
-Sunday
We woke up a lot earlier on this day. I cosplayed as Blake from RWBY, which was my Halloween costume this past year, and my dad went as a Military man from Fullmetal Alchemist.
The first panel we went to was about rage quitting in games, and how developers have to create a system that works around quitting. He used lots of examples from competitive Overwatch games, which is pretty fitting. I know first hand how it can be.
The final thing we went to was autographs with two voice actresses from the Anime "Dragon Maid." I really enjoy their characters in the show, so it was really great to meet them in real life!
This day was a lot shorter, so there wasn't as much to do; but we still had fun.

April Wrap-Up
Books I read:
American Born Chinese - Gene Luen Yang
I've read this book twice before. This is definitely one of those books that gets better the more you read it. You pick up on these small things that you didn't catch the last time you read it. The book is told in three different perspectives. Each story becomes intertwined with the other ones. It's amazing how a graphic novel can show things in such a different light than a novel. You can't always picture things in a novel, but in a graphic novel, it shows you exactly what you need to see.
4/5
Persepolis Two - Marjane Satrapi
This was another graphic novel I read this month. I read Persepolis last month, so I decided to read the second part this month. I can't say which one I enjoyed more, they're both good for different reasons. This one captured my attention for longer, but the last one was probably more interesting. I wonder how that works.
4/5
Long Way Down - Jason Reynolds
Another good book I read this month! This has been a pretty good April. Long Way Down is written in poetry, but it doesn't feel dense like a poetry book. The pages look amazing. They aren't just plain white, and depending on where you are on the story, the colors and designs change. It's about a kid whose brother died. He has to follow "The Rules," which tells him that he has to kill the person who killed his brother. It takes place almost completely on an elevator, and each chapter is a different floor. Along with the pages looking great, he arranges the words in very creative ways, making you visually understand the point he is trying to make. You could read this book in two hours, tops.
4/5
Movies I watched:
"Avengers: Infinity War"
I've never seen an Avengers movie, but I have watched both "Guardians of the Galaxy," and loved them. When I saw that they were going to be in this movie, I decided to go. I went with my dad, my sister, and some friends. We all really enjoyed it. It was funny, moving, and very sad. Like, need something to cheer you up after you watch it, sad. Seeing this makes me want to watch other Marvel movies, so I know what my summer is going to look like.
4/5
"The Cat Returns"
As part of the year round Studio Ghibli fest, my dad and I saw "The Cat Returns." I'd have to say that this one wasn't one of my favorites. The story at the beginning was a bit slow, and just as it was getting good, it ended. It focused more on the wacky factor that all Ghibli movies have, but was lacking on the actual story. I did however enjoy watching a bunch of cats do human things.
3/5
Theater I attended:
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child
As part of my sister's birthday, we went to Broadway to see this show. Wow, just wow. The show was incredible and there is no way to describe it properly. I feel like I can't even talk about the show without spoiling it. Just go see it if you get the chance.
5/5
Fiddler on the Roof
Some of our friends from Christmas Carol were in this show, so we decided to see it. I've seen the movie, but I've never seen it on stage. I really enjoyed it! It's so funny and our friend playing Tevia did so well. It's just a feel good musical, and I highly recommend going to see it when you get the chance.
4/5
Other things on my mind:
FL Studio
I've been working on more music lately. My goal is to do 12 songs this year. I spend more time on each song as I get better and understand the fundamentals of mixing a good tune. This was my first song with almost perfect mastering. It has some flaws in the production, but it's still my favorite I've done so far. You can listen to it here.
Peter Pan Jr.
I'm doing another show this year! I'm in Peter Pan Jr. with a whole bunch of friends. We started rehearsal in March, but we've been doing most of it in April. I play the roles of both a pirate and Mr. Darling, and I'm super excited to put on a great show!

March Wrap-Up
-Books-
Secret Garden - Frances Hodgson Burnett
This book was surprisingly good, for a classic. Classic books tend to not hold up over the years, but this one was very easy to understand. I recently saw the musical for it at a local theater, and was impressed by how much they followed the book.
3/5
Bernie Sanders Guide to Political Revolution
Our whole family really like Bernie Sanders, so when we found a YA version of his book, we were all over it. It talked about the different things we have to work on in this country. Things like Healthcare and Immigration. I agreed with most everything he talked about, and really enjoyed his point of view on these topics.
4/5
Persepolis - Marjane Satrapi
I've been reading a string of very good graphic novels lately and this one didn't disappoint. It's about a girl growing up during the rise of sharia law and how she must cope with it. She's hilarious and spunky; and is one of my favorite literary characters in a good while.
4/5
Lily and Duncan - Donna Gephart
I read this book for a bookclub I'm in and enjoyed it. It follows the two main characters Lily and Duncan. Lily is a transgender girl who isn't accepted by her dad. Duncan is a boy who struggles with an ambiguous mental disorder.
3/5
-Movies-
"Finding Neverland"
My sister and I are doing the Peter Pan musical at a local theater, so we decided to watch this to prepare. It's the story of how "" came up with the idea for Peter Pan. It was heartwarming and funny, even though it does have kind of a sad ending.
3/5
"Ready Player One"
I read Ready Player One last month and was super excited to watch the movie when it came out. I was expecting more than I received. The way the book was written, they could have kept every detail in and perfectly put it into a two hour movie, Spielberg completely overlooked many different points in the story, and even put some product placement within it. I was a fan of the book, but the movie was very disappointing. Thinking of it as a separate story makes it more enjoyable.
3/5
"Love Simon"
Unlike Ready Player One, I was very impressed with the way this movie turned out. It followed the book almost perfectly with a few changes that I didn't really like, but overall, I enjoyed it.
4/5
"Miss Representation" + "The Mask You Live In"
These two documentaries were a extremely educational on the topic of women's and men's issues in America. "The Mask You Live In" focused on the culture behind Toxic Masculinity. "Miss Representation" focused on feminism and the culture behind sexism.

Essay on EDM Music
For a class I had to write a topical essay on any subject. I chose EDM music. Here it is.
Electronic Music
Electronic music is a type of music created in France. There are multiple forms that electronic music can take, different sub-genres exist within it. Unlike other types of music, electronic music is created using mostly a computer.
Although you may not have realized it, you’ve probably heard some form of electronic music at one point or another. It is best understood if we first define different parts of its music.
Electronic music was created in 1948 in Paris. Although nowadays we use just a computer to create it, back then people would splice different sounds together from recording. Times really have changed, haven’t they? Electronic music has many different sub-genres and although it’s not super important to know all of them, I am going to mention a couple. Dubstep is one such genre, by taking electronic music and lowering the beats per minute to 70, you can create a slower tempo that makes the lead “Instruments” you use sound faster. This is why DJs like Skrillex use fast lead synths, to make the song sound faster than it actually is. House is another genre of electronic music that consists of a four-on-the-floor beat pattern, which is when you have a kick, followed by a hi-hat, followed by a snare, followed by another hi-hat. This is then repeated to give it that fast and funky feel.
Electronic music may not have been super influential in the music industry, but it sure is fun to dance to.

February Wrap-Up
Books I read:
The Da Vinci Code - Dan Brown
Not my favorite book but it did have a very interesting segment that I really enjoyed. I still recommend.
1,2,3,4,5
Catcher In The Rye - J. D. Salinger
This book is a classic, so I kind of had to read it. It's still not one of my favorites.
1,2,3,4,5
Goliath - Tom Gauld
This book is soooo good. It tells the story of Goliath from the Bible. It's drawings are super simple and it's a really quick read. It has a very sad sudden ending, as you would have guessed. I really recommend.
1,2,3,4,5
Ready Player One - Ernest Cline
I wanted to read it with the movie coming out and I enjoyed it, not my favorite, but I enjoyed the 80s references.
1,2,3,4,5
Movies I watched
Roman Holiday
I wrote a review of it here.
1,2,3,4,5
Theater I Attended
Beautiful
I can officially say that I'm not a huge fan of Jukebox musicals, between this and Mama Mia. I only recommend this to people who like Carol King, because it was very dull.

Book Review - Pax
I made this post a while ago, forgot to post it.
Pax is about a boy named Peter and his fox named Pax. The dad thinks that the fox is too much work, so the drive into the woods and let Pax go. Just a warning, the first chapter is insanely sad, for this very reason. The book is told in two perspectives Peter and Pax. The whole book is just about this boy running away from home and looking for his best friend.
I really enjoyed the chapters told by Peter, but after the first couple of the fox chapters, I started to not like the ones in Pax's point of view. Pax kind of acts like a dog, and foxes can't talk, so it was really cute for a little while, then it just got dull.
I would give this book a 4/5.

A Song I Made
I've been doing a lot of FL Studio recently, which is a music producing program. Here is my most recent song, I'm pretty proud of it.

January Wrap-Up
Books I read:
Milk and Vine - Adam Gasiewski and Emily Beck
It was just a fun read. The pages were just pictures and quotes from different Vines, it was a very fun read.
1,2,3,4,5
Maus 2 - Art Spiegelman
Not as good as the first one, but I still enjoyed it. Spiegelman has a great writing and art style.
1,2,3,4,5
Simon vs. the Homosapien Agenda - Becky Albertalli
My favorite book I've read in a while. This is the first YA book I've read, and it was a great introduction.
1,2,3,4,5
Old Man and the Sea - Ernest Hemingway
Hemingway is a very good writer, but I just didn't enjoy this book that much. It was dull and boring, but I can recognize the author as a good author.
1,2,3,4,5
Movies I watched
The Post
This movie was extremely good. I think it will win some Oscars.
1,2,3,4,5
Jumanij: Welcome to the Jungle
This movie is not by all means a great movie. The only reason it has the same rating as The Post, is because I enjoyed it the same amount. It had good characters and it was hilarious.
1,2,3,4,5
Mary and the Witch's Flower
I loved this Anime so much. It reminded be of the old Studio Ghibli, Totoro and Kiki's to be exact.
1,2,3,4,5
The Family Stone
This movie was pretty good, but it dragged. It had a few pretty funny scenes, but I wasn't super impressed.

Monstercat Top 3 of 2017
Looking back at the past year of Monstercat, here are the top 3 songs. It was insanely hard to narrow this list down to just 3 songs. I had to look at the song as a whole, instead of what sounded good to my ears. I judged it based on bass drop, vocals, how much this song gets in your head, and the overall atmosphere of the song.
3. INTERCOM - Decoy World VIP (Feat. Park Avenue)
The VIP version of this song is way better than the original. The vocals done by Park Avenue add the beautifully done into, followed by a heavy hitting melodic bass drop. This song deserves the number 3 spot.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JzMFzMQ3hqc
2. Mr FijiWiji & Exist Strategy - Andromeda (Feat. Matt Van)
This song is one of my favorites of 2017, Mr FijiWiji does an amazing job of giving you a good vibe and Matt Van has such a great voice for the tone of the melody and rhythm.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBBOfCRhEz4
1. Zac Waters - A Lot Like You
I didn't like this song the first time I heard it, but it's really grown on me. The first bass drop isn't something to be desired, but his musical atmosphere is just so amazing, that I can look past it. The second bass drop has your jaw dropping, right when it finishes, then you want to listen to it again.

3. INTERCOM - Decoy World VIP (Feat. Park Avenue)
The VIP version of this song is way better than the original. The vocals done by Park Avenue add the beautifully done into, followed by a heavy hitting melodic bass drop. This song deserves the number 3 spot.

2. Mr FijiWiji & Exist Strategy - Andromeda (Feat. Matt Van)
This song is one of my favorites of 2017, Mr FijiWiji does an amazing job of giving you a good vibe and Matt Van has such a great voice for the tone of the melody and rhythm.

December Wrap-Up
Books I read:
Diary of a Wimpy Kid 11 - Jeff Kinney
1,2,3,4,5
This series is kind of a guilty pleasure for me, but the series has been kind of up and down. This was not one of my favorites by him.
Cast No Shadow - Nick Tapalanksy
1,2,3,4,5
This graphic novel was amazing and nothing like other books I've read. The art style is really cool and it kind of mixes genres to name a couple of things that differentiate this to other books.
Movies/Theater I attended:
Star Wars: The Last Jedi
1,2,3,4,5
Not as good as Force Awakens in my opinion, but it was still amazing. The silent parts in the movie added to the atmosphere and I love what they did with Luke's character. (I'm still mad about that stupid scene in space with General Leia, though)
The Greatest Showman
1,2,3,4,5
This was NOT the greatest show, but that doesn't mean it wasn't really, really, good! I enjoyed watching this movie on the big screen and the music is phenomenal. Although, I'm kind of getting sick of it since it's played at our house non-stop. ;)
Boss Baby
1,2,3,4,5
Not as good as I thought it was gonna be, although I didn't have super high hopes, it was still a good family movie.
New Games I Enjoyed:
Three Cheers For Master
1,2,3,4,5
If you haven't played this card game, you really need to. It has a great tower stacking mechanic that makes you feel like you are playing some kind of weird Tetris. Also, the art and text on each card is hilarious.
Obsessions I gained:
Yu-Gi-Oh!
1,2,3,4,5,6, . . . 100
Although this is not by any means a new obsession, thanks to a new friend, I rediscovered my love of it. I kind of stopped playing because none of my friends play it, but I've met new friends who love the game just as much as I do.
