January Wrap-Up

Books I read:

Milk and Vine - Adam Gasiewski and Emily Beck

It was just a fun read. The pages were just pictures and quotes from different Vines, it was a very fun read.

Maus 2 - Art Spiegelman

Not as good as the first one, but I still enjoyed it. Spiegelman has a great writing and art style.

1,2,3,4,5

Simon vs. the Homosapien Agenda - Becky Albertalli

My favorite book I've read in a while. This is the first YA book I've read, and it was a great introduction.

Old Man and the Sea - Ernest Hemingway

Hemingway is a very good writer, but I just didn't enjoy this book that much. It was dull and boring, but I can recognize the author as a good author.

Movies I watched

The Post

This movie was extremely good. I think it will win some Oscars.

1,2,3,4,5

Jumanij: Welcome to the Jungle

This movie is not by all means a great movie. The only reason it has the same rating as The Post, is because I enjoyed it the same amount. It had good characters and it was hilarious.

Mary and the Witch's Flower

I loved this Anime so much. It reminded be of the old Studio Ghibli, Totoro and Kiki's to be exact.

1,2,3,4,5

The Family Stone

This movie was pretty good, but it dragged. It had a few pretty funny scenes, but I wasn't super impressed.

You had a pretty good month when it comes to books and movies. It was really fun sharing "Mary and the Witch's Flower" with you. I'm really hoping the studio puts out another movie soon. I was really impressed. I feel the same way about The Old Man and the Sea. I enjoy Hemingway in general, but that's not my favorite book by him.

I'm not surprised you enjoyed Simon as much as you did. That's kind of the perfect representation of how all YA contemporaries should be. There are lots more you can read if you liked that one!

I'm so glad you liked Simon so much! You're in for a treat if those are the kind of YA books you like. There are so many great contemporaries!!

It was fun to see you and your friends laughing so hard at the Milk and Vine book.

Pretty great month for you! Nice mix of books and movies. Well done!

Totally agree on Old Man and the Sea. I've had a hard time really appreciating Hemingway. I want to like him, but I get bored when I read him. I've read critics say yeah, Old Man and the Sea isn't even his best work, so why'd get get the Pulitzer for that one. And I want to see The Post but I'm waiting to rent it, because I have this really bad habit of falling asleep in movie theaters and I think this movie might be one of those that I have to watch a couple of times anyway to really get it.
