February Wrap-Up

Books I read:

The Da Vinci Code - Dan Brown

Not my favorite book but it did have a very interesting segment that I really enjoyed. I still recommend.

Catcher In The Rye - J. D. Salinger

This book is a classic, so I kind of had to read it. It's still not one of my favorites.

Goliath - Tom Gauld

This book is soooo good. It tells the story of Goliath from the Bible. It's drawings are super simple and it's a really quick read. It has a very sad sudden ending, as you would have guessed. I really recommend.

1,2,3,4,5

Ready Player One - Ernest Cline

I wanted to read it with the movie coming out and I enjoyed it, not my favorite, but I enjoyed the 80s references.

Movies I watched

Roman Holiday

I wrote a review of it here.

Theater I Attended

Beautiful

I can officially say that I'm not a huge fan of Jukebox musicals, between this and Mama Mia. I only recommend this to people who like Carol King, because it was very dull.

That's how I feel about most of Dan Brown's books, in general. There are always interesting parts with really cool symbolism, but his writing is just OK.

I'm glad it was a pretty good reading month overall. I'm intrigued by Goliath and definitely need to read it now. And I'd be happy to see "Ready Player One" with you. It looks like the movie is going to be pretty action-packed!

I thought you enjoyed "Beautiful" a bit more. I can see what you mean about Jukebox musicals, though. If you don't enjoy the music by itself, it can be tough to enjoy the musical.

I like how you get right to the point with your reviews. It's funny, especially when you're not exactly raving. And we're in agreement. Catcher in the Rye--I like the idea of it more than the actual book. The concept, if I'm getting what the author was trying to get across, is of a jaded teen who's perspective of the world is actually more reality based than anyone around him, all the while maintaining a soft heart. Do I have it right? Or did you get something different from it?

And Mamma Mia! Oh how I hate that I paid full price to see the movie when it came out. And seriously, if you know me at all, I love musicals, and I love corny, but that was just ridiculously bad. So the only good thing is I passed on the traveling theatrical production when it came to Popejoy Hall here in Albuquerque.

Oof, rough month. I would have thought "Beautiful" could get a slightly higher rating from you. But Jukebox musicals can be pretty hit or miss. Maybe next month will be better!

I really want to read "Goliath" now! Thanks for the recommendation. Is it in your room?

So Jimmy, is it safe to say you won't be seeing the sequel? :P
