The One and Only Ivan

picture from Amazon.com

I read The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate. It is about a gorilla who lives in a shopping mall. The book is kind of like a journal; that is part of the reason I liked it so much. It is told from Ivan's perspective as he tries to understand the world around him. He is friends with a homeless dog named Bob, an elephant named Stella, and a human named Julia. He doesn't know much about the wild or how to act like a real gorilla, but he must learn because when a baby elephant named Ruby arrives and he must help her.

I would give this book

because it was funny, touching, and really easy to understand.

Very good review. You made it sound really interesting without giving away too much. I had a lot of fun reading this with you and discussing it at your book club. I'm glad you liked it so much.

I'm jealous! This is a book I was going to read with you and Kate before I knew that you were doing it for book club. I've heard such good things and this review makes it all sound even more intriguing. Thanks for sharing! Sounds like everyone really likes this one!

I've heard nothing but good about this book. :) I love books written like a journal and ones that involve animals, so this sound like one I'd enjoy!
